Prisoners of War - French Personnel
This dataset contains approximately 5’000 names of French personnel who by the end of World War 2 were interned in China and repatriated to French-Indochina by the U.S. Military.
The list comprises Names of around 300 civilians, though the significant majority are French military personnel. It is not clear how these French Citizens ended in China, though some military personnel of the Forces Françaises Libres (F.F.L.) which operated in Southern China; some French personnel also fled the Japanese Coup d’état in French-Indochina on the 9th of March 1945 to southern China.
Within the larger Ph.D. project, this list will be used to try tracing some of the French Citizens in French-Indochina and their fate at the end of World War 2. |
